GENERAL ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE CONSIDERS FEDERAL SHUTDOWN HOUSING RELIEF

The Council’s General Assembly committee, met on Tuesday, January 29th.  The committee, chaired by Council Vice-Chair Rodney C. Streeter, reviews State and local Prince George’s County legislation during the Maryland General Assembly Session, that have potential policy or fiscal impacts on the County. During the meeting, the committee supported a proposed letter to the Honorable Joanne C. Benson, Chair, Prince George's County Senate Delegation and the Honorable Michael A. Jackson, Chair, Prince George's County House Delegation, regarding Federal Shutdown Housing Relief.  The letter seeks emergency state legislation to prevent evictions and foreclosures for federal employees and contractors impacted by the shutdown.  Meeting agendas, announcements and current copies of delegation bills are available on the Prince George’s County Delegation website .

Maryland Gov. Hogan fights back against lawmakers over post-Labor Day school year start

Frustrated by Maryland lawmakers' attempts to undo his executive order to start the state's public school year after Labor Day, Gov. Larry Hogan says he'll submit a bill that would make school boards ask voters whether they want to start school earlier. Hogan says he's offering "genuine local control."
