50th Anniversary Greensboro Sit-Ins:
"They Sat, So That We Could Stand"
Greensboro, NC, Jan. 2010 - ASASP's Representatives Vice President, Dwayne Jones, Executive Diretor, Doris Reed, and Assistant Executive Director, Hugh Weathers joined other trade unionists, community and political leaders, as well as scores of civil rights activists in the AFL-CIO Martin Luther King Day Observance Celebration in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The Celebration's theme "Let Us Not Forget" featured the 50th anniversary of the African American student sit-in at the whites only Woolworth Department Store lunch counter in Greensboro. Three of the four students were the guest speakers at the labor luncheon. The trail blazers addressed the importance of the historical event and its significance on U.S. social development and racial equality - l. to r.: Franklin McCain, Jibreel Khazan (Ezelle Blair, Jr.), William Chafe, Joseph McNeil.

The ASASP Representatives also participated in the Community Service: Union Values at Work initiative by volunteering at the local warehouse organizing school supplies, food and clothing to be distributed to needy families.
