The JC Turner Award for Outstanding Trade Unionist of the Year is proudly presented to our own Doris Reed, shown here with Joslyn Williams, the Metro Council's President and Dinner Chairman, Fred Allen.
Doris' first dedication of labor is to ASASP where she has served for the last 17 years as Executive Director. In addition to and to the advantage of her commitment to ASASP, Doris supports Metropolitan Washington Council AFL-CIO activities as an active Executive Board member. Whether it has been keeping a protective eye out for labor in Prince George's County, working in solidarity with the other school unions, turning out the troops for endorsed-candidate campaigns, participating actively in endorse-ment interviews or rallying participants in labor protests, Doris has been the epitome of a labor leader. She has also made sure ASASP supports the efforts of the Community Services Agency (CSA) and has come up with a creative means of financial support - making contributions to CSA in the name of members who pass on. She has been instrumental in promoting the return of Career and Technical Education with PGCPS, especially in the area of construction and apprenticeship.
Tony Perez of the United Food Commercial Workers Union Local 400 congratulates Doris and James Allen, who received the COPE award for outstanding assistance and support to the Metro Council's political program in a volunteer capacity.
Several ASASP members joined in the celebration held at the Washington Hilton on March 22. James Smallwood ASASP President and Vice President Dwayne Jones would not have missed the chance to say - that's our Doris!
Our Doris is a solid trade unionist through and through.
